perception illusion

This is actually an old one from 1995 but for me it is still the most astonishing optical illusion.

Which one is brighter, A or B?



Both have the same brightness!


I didn't really believe it at first, I had to print it out and cut out A and B. The above picture gives sufficient proof though, so you don't have to.
